Unreal Tournament, sometimes referred to as Unreal Tournament ’99, is a popular first-person shooter developed by Epic Games and Digital Extremes and published by GT Interactive in 1999. Based on the Unreal engine, this game is focused on multiplayer battles against other players or bots. It has been released for Microsoft Windows, Apple Macintosh, Linux, Sony PlayStation 2 and Sega Dreamcast. Its main competitor, Quake III Arena, was released only ten days later. Due to the success of Unreal Tournament, it was followed by three sequels: Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004 and Unreal Tournament 3.
